The latest beauty buzz, iconic brands Clinique and Kate Spade have synched to create the whimsical, limited-edition Pop Plush Creamy Lip Gloss collection. Super charming, each spring flower, bold stripe, kiss kiss and graphic polka dot-stylized lid adds a dash of NYC fashion to its respective gloss’ “Rosewater’s” pretty pink, “Juicy Apple’s” lush red, “Black Honey’s” sheer berry and “Air Kiss’s” pearly nude shades.
But that’s only 75 per cent why we’re fans. We reserve 25 per cent of our enthusiasm for our die-hard favourites and the skincare brand’s “Black Honey” lippy, including this new iteration, has long claimed our lips.
Perfect with its sheer, reddish-brownish-berry tint, “Black Honey” goes with everything, including our weekend no-makeup/makeup look. Crafted in 1971 by Carol Phillips, a Clinique co-founder and former Vogue editor, the universal go-to was initially accessible in a little round pot that, later, gained cult status in its current “Almost Lipstick” formulation—39 years ago. And holding. Now in its current glossy state with a too-cute-not-to-buy tube, you can see why we’re fixated. And taking smiling selfies on repeat.
Makes sense though. The bigwig brands’ design M.O. was to specifically induce joy, optimism and colour for everyone. Each hue and its perky packaging is intended to be gender-free, so if you want your layer-able lacquer you better be quick. With its limited-edition status combined with “Black Honey’s” viral, internet-breaking past, the fabulous four won’t last forever.
