Hot Holiday Hair

With holiday parties upon us, there’s no better accessory for your LBD than a haute hair look. Whether you experiment with volume, rock a glitzy accessory, try a braided updo or go for tousled waves, here are four new ideas for the party circuit:

Be a Tease

An updo with lots of volume is sure to turn heads at your holiday party. We have shows like Mad Men to thank for putting big hair on the map again. This sex kitten look is best reserved for a big night out with friends rather than a work holiday party. Try a pompadour style like Marion Cotillard and Rihanna have done recently. Or, go for the half-up, half-down do like Rachel McAdams did at the Sherlock Holmes premiere.

Make Waves

This holiday season, shaken-out styles like waves and free-flowing curls are polished and fierce (think Taylor Swift). This low-maintenance ‘do looks fab swept over one shoulder or it can be worn as a low side pony that cascades over just one shoulder. The beauty of this look is that you can create it with virtually no styling tools. Spray a texturizing product into dry hair until hair is a bit damp. Then, separate hair into four buns: one at the back, one at the front and one above each ear. Set hair for about 20 minutes and then shake hair loose. This will give you sexy texture, but without the damage of hot rollers or curling iron.

Sparkling Accessories

Cute headbands and hair pieces are everywhere. They are a cheap and chic way to dress up your holiday look–if you don’t have the cash to splurge on a fancy new party frock, a hair accessory is the next best way to glam up your look. If you want to get creative, dig into your jewellery box and closet. Try pinning a vintage brooch into a messy bun or use a ribbon belt as a head band.

Braids

Braids are having a red carpet moment, especially on young starlets like Blake Lively, Kristen Bell and Kate Hudson. They are the perfect mix of beach-bum beauty and effortless chic. The best part is that you need virtually no styling tools to get the look — just a hair tie and some hair spray. You can wear it long and smooth or create a loose, messy braid and then pin it into a messy bun.

You definitely don’t look like a boy, you look sokmin’ hot!! LOVE that faux hawk!!!! But I do know what you mean. When I had short hair (for about five minutes) in college I loved it at first but then realized that I had to put in more effort to look like a girl and I just couldn’t be bothered. About six months after that haircut I was back to rocking the no makeup + pony tail look.
