Even though we are into the first few days of fall, most people in the fashion world are thinking about spring! Spring might still be eight months away, but spring/summer 2012 fashion weeks are happening right now in major cities across the globe. If you happen to be in one of those major cities, you can experience the fun and excitement that is fashion week. Whether you are going to see some shows or not, you can still participate by dressing the part, because this is one of the two weeks a year where you can get away with wearing almost anything! Here are some tips to make the most of your fashion week wardrobe.
Tip #1: Wear Heels
As a girl of 5’11, you will rarely see me wearing 4 heels. But during fashion week, it’s a crime not to! Girls of any height should wear their highest, most eccentric heels during fashion week, because let’s face it, every girls loves an excuse to wear them. And get creative; colourful shoes with thicker heels and lot’s of detailing are really hot right now (think Dries Van Noten fall 2011 shoe collection).
Tip #2: Accessorize
The right accessories can give any outfit that extra bit of flare, and this is especially true during fashion week. If you ever had that debate should I go with the chunky necklace, or the hat, or the unconventional bag? Because I can’t wear them all at the same time. Well during fashion week, you can! Throw caution to the wind and wear the leopard shoe with the snake print bag and the gold chain necklace and a million bangles.
Tip #3: Bring your camera
One of the best accessories you can drape yourself in during fashion week, is a good camera. Maybe you normally wouldn’t carry around your DSLR all day, but fashion week is the perfect time to wear it and use it. You never know who you are going to see, or what glorious and inspiring outfit is going to pass by you. Snap a picture, and you will forever have the memories of that perfect outfit you saw during fashion week, and can’t wait to try out on your own.
Tip #4: Be Unique
We all know the hip items that anyone who’s anyone in fashion has (Think the Cambridge satchel). These pieces are super fashionable no doubt; however keep in mind that you will probably see others with them. And you don’t want to end up standing in line next to someone wearing the exact same dress or bag. So try to be a little bit unique and creative with your wardrobe choices. Wear something that no one else is going to have, or wear something classic in a new way.
Tip#5: Have a good bag
If you are immersed in fashion week, but not important enough to have your own car and driver, you will probably spend a lot of hours out and about in the city Have a good bag that’s on trend, but big enough to hold everything you might need during the day. Make-up, granola bars, flats (for your downtime), camera, notebook, cell phone¦ there is no end to the things us ladies need to have in our bags. A good option for this season is something leather, in a bright or rich colour. You’ll stand out, while you are being practical. Win-win!
