The Summer Shoe on Every Blogger’s List

As if you needed a reason to buy a new pair of shoes. In case you did, though, it is time to invest in this season’s hottest shoe: the espadrille. Not just any espadrille. We’re talking about the chunky (minimum one-inch thick) sole, flatform-not-wedge and in a bright pattern or print. The espadrille is even better with a ribbon laced around the ankle or a gladiator tie criss-crossed up the ankle.

There’s not shortage of inspiration on all our favourite blogger’s Instagram feeds and Pinterest pages. It seems that every style blogger is finding a way to rock this season’s must-have shoe, from Sincerely Jules to Chiara Ferragni, finishing off their summer looks with an ultra-chic espadrille. Word to the wise: the wilder the better.

If you’re attempting the espadrille for the first time, we have some tips on how to style them. You might want to start with a pair in a solid colour, or at the very least, pick a neutral base colour with a fun colour-blocked toe. Think Chanel’s pink espadrilles with black toe details. You can pair a classic espadrille with light wash denim jeans that have the requisite rip in the knees and a basic coloured tank in white, black, navy or grey. The espadrille works really well with a straw hat. Not sure why, but they are like the peanut butter and jam of summer accessories.

On the other hand, if this isn’t your first BBQ and you’ve already purchase a pair or two of espadrilles, allow us to proffer some stylish variations for your consideration this season. We adore anything with lemons on it, and you can’t go wrong with Soludos with embroidered graphic details like sunflowers and blood oranges. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, try Chiara Ferragni’s sparkly version with winking eyes and pair them with high-waisted kick flares and a fun crop top.
