Punk has returned, and yes, it is a good thing! The once popular trend has reemerged on the fashion scene and every designer label from Saint Laurent to Rodarte is switching from feminine and sweet to edgy and cool in their fall/winter 2013 collections. Here are five items to add to your closet and get you ready for the punk revival!
If you’ve ever wanted to invest in a leather jacket or vest, here is your chance. A leather jacket has been a staple item when it comes adding edge and is part of almost any punk inspired look. On more cooler days layer with a grey or black long sleeved shirt or sweater for an appropriate (and warm) everyday outfit.
1. Leather Jacket, Danier Leather, $349
This is figuratively speaking, of course, but there is something to be said about a bold printed sweater or studded booties, especially when paired with basic items. Next time you’re going out pair your basic black pants with a graphic sweatshirt – a currently popular trend – or a studded pair of boots and you’ll be sure to stand out from the crowd.
2. Total Stud Over-the-Knee Boots, Forever 21, $53.80
Something Leather (or Pleather)
Usually people opt for a leather jacket (or pleather, for those who prefer not to wear leather), but it doesn’t necessarily need to be a jacket. Long pencil skirts, pants and even gloves can express your wild side and still be appropriate to wear to your 9 to 5 job.
3. Synthetic Leather Skirt, Zara, $59.90
This is an obvious one, but still very important if you really want to stay true to the rebel spirit. Whether you wear black, blue or grey, stay with a dark colour palette. If you’re not used to wearing all black, mix up your outfit with different patterns, textures and accessories.
4. Lace Tee, Joe Fresh, $19
Something Plaid or Tartan
If Cher and Dion taught us anything, it is that wearing a tartan blazer and skirt combo is chic! These two patterns will add the right amount femininity to your look, which is good news for those of you who aren’t quite ready to go completely punk. Start off with something small, like this checked H&M scarf and work your way up.
5. Checked Scarf, H&M, $19.95
