In a world where everyone thinks they have to blend in, why is it that we are so drawn to the people who don’t?
Many celebrities are making a name by creating their own personal styles that are easy to distinguish from the bunch. Just take a look at Katy Perry’s blue hair for “California Girls”, Nicki Minaj’s obsession with the colour pink and Gwen Stefani’s tribute to Japanese fashion with Harajuku Girls. Here we can take fashion to a whole new level and create it as our own.
1) What’s your personality type?
Is it girly, athletic, punky? Understand what makes you, YOU and let your true self shine through in what you wear.
2) Accessorize
Accessories are a great thing. They add so much character to an outfit. You can take a plain old tank top and jeans, and add some accessories to distinguish your personal style. Add some shiny jewels, a pair of designer runners, a hat, a studded belt. etc. Whatever you choose, have fun with it!
3) Design
Many celebrities decided that they wanted to design their own fashion line, such as Sienna Miller, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Gwen Stefani and Beyonce. Take the celebs advice and create fashion styles of your own! You don’t have to be a fashion designer, you just can go to your local crafts store and pick up some swarovski crystals, or even make your own quirky T-shirts (T-shirt iron-on print paper is available at Walmart and other retailers.)
4) Hair
Hair is important to any style, just look at Victoria Beckham’s wave of the a-symmetrical bob. Try different colours, cuts, extensions, wigs… play around with it and see which style suits you!
5) Makeup
Just like hair, makeup can alter your style in an instant. Just look at makeup tutorials, photos of celebs, and play with what you have! You can make a sultry smoky eye, or a glowing fresh faced look. There’s a whole world of looks to choose from. We also recommend experimenting with bronzers, nails, and temporary tattoos (Try Kat Von D’s Temporary Tattoos from Sephora, they’re great!)
6) Clothes
Try colours, prints, different styles of shoes, mixing, matching and layering.
Also keep your style updated without going over your budget, because shopping really is a girl’s best friend.
