6 Celebrity Real-Life Ghost Encounters

I see dead people.” That famous one-liner certainly rings true for these celebrities. So in honour of ghost week we wanted to share some of our favourite celebrity ghost stories

1. Matthew McConaughey

Who knew that back in 2003, this Hollywood Hunk was living in a haunted house! That's right, McConaughey admitted that when he first moved into his Hollywood home he was visited by a ghost he called “Madame Blue.” Naturally, he went to inspect the noise and the two made peace with each other. Oh sorry, did I mention he was naked? Good day to be a ghost, eh ladies? How could Madame Blue not fall his "alright, alright, alriiiiight" charms?

2. Alyson Hannigan

After being sidekick to Sarah Michelle Gellar and fighting a bunch of paranormal creatures on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we're not completely surprised that Alyson Hannigan has had her fair share of spooky encounters. In a 2003 interview, Hannigan said that she met a very polite ghost when her and her husband moved into their Los Angeles home. “My friend saw him first one night. She said, 'I don't mean to alarm you , but I just saw a man follow us out of the house.' And I said, 'Well at least he's gentlemanly, he let us go first.'” Awe, that's so sweet!

3. Taylor Momsen

Nothing is real until you have photographic evidence, right? This Gossip Girl star claims to not only have seen a ghost, but has the pictures to prove it! In an interview with People Magazine, Momsen said that her mother's wealthy next-door neighbour died and her belongings got put into a museum. Momsen went ghost hunting into the deceased ladies home, talked to the woman, and captured pictures. “There are actually two images that I took, one of a hand on a typewriter and one of her entire body in a window.” Yiiiiikes.

4. Keanu Reeves

Everyone loves a sharp dressed…ghost? Keanu's Reeves' run in with his ghost was no doubt freaky—but a stylish one too. Reeves said in an interview, “I remember just staring at this suit, which had no body or legs in it as it came into the room before disappearing. It was just a double-breasted suit in white, and I looked at my nanny, who was just as shocked as me.” As a young boy, that would definitely traumatize anyone. At least there was a second person to seal some sort of confirmation.

5. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

Who you gonna call? Lady Gaga! Back in 2010, Gaga was convinced that she was being followed by an “annoying” ghost named Ryan. Turns out she was terrified by this spirit—so much that she reportedly dropped thousands of dollars on a ghost buster machine to get rid of him. A source close to the star told Britain's Daily Star newspaper, “She believes in paranormal activity and won't take any risks when she is on the road. It's important for her to be safe from spirits.” I guess it turned out to be a “Bad Romance” for Gaga and Ryan.

6. Kate Hudson

Not every spirit has to be a scary one. Kate Hudson's experience with the dead turned out to be a her grandmother! On the DVD extras of her 2005 film The Skeleton Key, Hudson stated that she's been visited by a number of ghosts. “I've seen ghosts plenty of times. I've seen a ghost of a woman with no face, and that was really creepy.” Another time, my grandmother came to me and I woke up feeling amazing that she was around me.” Good lookin' out grandma!
