5 Ways to Up Your Instagram Game

In the world of Instagram, there are two types of people, those who want more likes, and those who are liars. Admit it, everyone wants to be the cool kid, and in today’s world, that translates to popularity on social media. It’s just a matter of how badly you want it, and how to go about doing it. So, if you secretly stalk Rumi Neely and wonder how the hell she posts a picture of herself with a flower and racks up more likes than the population of a country, we got you covered. Scroll down for everything you need to know to be the next Kylie Jenner (sans the lip injections).

Edit your own pictures

Step away from the Valencia filter. Instagram may give you filters to work with, but the best images are the ones that are edited by you. Either use the customizable editing feature that Instagram now offers, or download apps like VSCO or Afterlight. Then feel free to add a little Valencia on there (toned down), if you must.

Never use flash, EVER

Using flash while taking pictures is quite possibly the worst thing you can do. It’s unflattering and has an amateur porn vibe to it. For best quality pictures, take advantage of natural light.

Oh symmetry, oh symmetry

This may seem slightly OCD, but you know what, welcome to Instagram. No one wants to see an uneven picture. Use the ˜adjust’ feature to ensure that your image is straight and symmetrical.

Tag companies and use their hashtags

Companies like Aritzia and Oak + Fort (amongst others) encourage you to tag them and use their hashtag when you’re wearing their product. If you’re lucky, you may even get featured!

Figure out a theme

Think of your Instagram like a gallery as opposed to just a single image at a time. This means figuring out a theme and creating balance. Figure out what your identity is, and post accordingly.
