The Love and Work Balancing Act

No one ever said managing a career was trouble-free. But throw a relationship into the mix and you’ve got career suicide, right? Not necessarily! Once upon a time, the boundaries between work and home were crystal clear. Our relationships do not have to suffer because of our motivation in the working world. Times have changed and for a working woman this can be the biggest tug of rope game in their life. Below are some ideas for those girls wanting to achieve the perfect balancing act of love and work.

Prioritize. Start by determining which area of your life is getting the most You time. Clarify whether the gain in one area is worth paying the price of a loss in the other. Often this priority change means letting one ambition suffer in substitution for another. For example, dwindling your professional ambitions in return for the perfect relationship. But what’s the fun of a promotion without a special someone to share it with? Burning yourself up with work can be avoided by making sure the other aspects of your life are well taken care of.

Make an action plan. Develop a way to re-allocate your time and energy to those people or activities that are important to you. Luckily, prioritizing does not mean surrendering what you love; it means making minor changes. Start by building a strong foundation for both your relationship and work life, therefore you can prevent troubles if priorities uncontrollably shift.

Divide and conquer. Work and relationships simply do not mix, unless you’re superwoman! Do not let a love quarrel or starry-eyed daydreaming become a distraction. As an alternative, spend your day being productive; giving you more one-on-one time for that special someone afterward. When you are at work, commit entirely to your job and the requests of your coworkers.

Remain connected. Being trapped at the office is sometimes unavoidable, but fortunately this craze called Social Networking exists, allowing us to remain in touch anywhere and anytime. Take five minutes each day to send a hush-hush message to your sweetie, letting them know that throughout the never-ending meetings conference calls and deadlines, you are thinking about them.

So although your anniversary falls on a weekday, there is no need to fuss! Finish off that report by four and pick up a bottle of his favorite wine on the way home. Balance is possible and well worth the effort sometimes required to achieve a flourishing career and a loving relationship. If the perfect job and the perfect relationship is what you crave for, I am here to say that it is achievable!
