Willow Smith is the New Face of Chanel

What a week we’re having. First, yesterday was International Women’s Day. Second, today I had pie for breakfast. And in between, Willow Smith has been named the new face of Chanel, bless us everyone.

The news was announced from a tweet from the fashion house’s official account, and they certainly didn’t mince words, I’ll tell you that much.

“Willow Smith has been chosen by Karl Lagerfeld as the new CHANEL ambassadress,” they said, before tagging Willow and hashtagging #ChanelFallWinter2017. In response, she took to Instagram to confirm the news.

“Thank you Karl Lagerfeld and the entire team at Chanel for expanding the perceptions of “beauty” by picking me to be the new Chanel ambassador,” she captioned. “I am honored. #BLACKGIRLMAGIC”

Smith and Lagerfeld first met in 2014 on the set of her V Magazine shoot, and at age 15 she’s actually the youngest person to hold the title she has currently. Also, she’s understandably psyched.

“Sitting in the chairs and just watching the clothes walk by is so amazing because you get to see the soul that’s inside of them,” she said to Teen Vogue yesterday. “I feel like there is so much creativity going on that I want to inject some of my ideas and some of my energy into the brand, because I feel like there’s a lot of things that come from youth nowadays that need to be expressed and amplified to the world.”

She also gushed about the F/W 2016 collection to WWD.

“You can just tell all the clothes are just crafted with so much care, and you can tell there’s so much soul put into how they are designed,” she explained. “That’s really the goal that I try to strive for, for everything that I do. It’s like, putting in so much thought and feeling inside of the art that you make, so that everyone can feel it around you.”

See? This is why teens are the future. First, because that’s how time works and they will inevitably grow up to replace us all the way we did the generation above our own. Second, because girlfriend is thinking in progressive ways very few of us are. (Further proven by her brother Jaden’s Louis Vuitton campaign that saw him wearing a skirt and totally killing it.)

Willow Smith is exactly what Chanel needs to prove it’s not a safe and traditional fashion house. Because while Blake Lively and Cara Delevingne, and Blake Lively are fine, Willow Smith whips her hair back and forth.
