Marc by Marc Jacobs (the Marc Jacobs spinoff fashion line famous for its adorable prints, girly charm and friendlier price point) is celebrating its 10 year anniversary. In Spring 2011, Marc by Marc will be launching a capsule ‘Greatest Hits’ collection which will feature the most popular men’s and women’s designs since the label debuted in 2001.
With 161 stores worldwide, according to president Carolyn Risoli, the line as seen “double-digit growth” – a fantastic feat considering Marc by Marc Jacobs itself originally seemed less than promising.
“After our partnership with LVMH, I really kept pushing the issue with Mr. Arnault [chairman and chief executive of LVMH],” Marc Jacobs CEO Robert Duffy explained in a recent interview with WWD. “Most people at [LVMH] didn’t understand it, because LVMH was a luxury group and, I mean, that’s what they do and that’s what they do really well. There was a lot of resistance to it. I had to pitch it to everybody underneath [Arnault] and everybody said no.”
10 years later, and it’s safe to say that without the secondary line, Marc Jacobs in any capacity would be less attainable for those of us with great taste and a less-than-off-the-runway budget. Spring 2011 can’t come fast enough.
