Since playing Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker has earned quite the reputation for being quite a style icon — and her red carpet appearances certainly don’t hurt.
However, that’s not how the actress sees herself. (We know. We’re shocked too.)
“It’s not an identity that I . . . connect to,” she said, according to Coco Perez. “I’m grateful if anyone says anything kind, and if they say something less kind, I take that as a part of anyone talking about you at all. It’s not how I think of myself, and I think it’s probably the healthier approach.”
“I love beautiful things,” she continued. “And I’m privileged to borrow a beautiful dress. I feel really lucky and I really enjoy it. I feel like [fashion] has a proper place in my life. It’s just not a reality — not when you have three kids and you go to the market and there are hungry people at home. You have a limited time to do it. There’s just no time to let vanity enter into that.”
Now that really IS a healthy way of thinking. And it’s probably why SJP and Matt Broderick have been able to keep it together, raise a family, and maintain pretty bankable careers. Hopefully Young Hollywood perks up their ears and heeds Parker’s advice!
I think she mostly looked like a hooker in SATC and she looks ridiculous most of the time in “real” life.
