It wouldn’t be the day after Oscar night without the essential best-dressed list. And while we can go on about how The Artist took home the Oscar for Best Picture, that Octavia Spencer won the Best Supporting Actress award, that Meryl Streep swept Best Actress (to a standing ovation), that Christopher Plummer finally got his Best Supporting Actor nod and Jean Dujardin won Best Actor, fashion is many of us tuned in for.
That said, here are our picks for the Best Dressed at last night’s Oscars. And the competition was steep.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyenth Paltrow looked every inch a superhero in her white Tom Ford gown, complete with cape. With her hair pulled back and a diamond cuff to enhance her style, she kept it cool on a notoriously high stress night.
Octavia Spencer
The Best Supporting Actress not only got a standing ovation for her well-deserved Oscar, The Help star turned heads thanks to her Tadashi Shoji beaded white gown.
J.Lo
Potential wardrobe malfunction aside, Jennifer Lopez looked chic in her silhouette-hugging Zuhair Murad dress. Another beaded offering, the gown’s low neckline was balanced her her long sleeves.
Angelina Jolie
While Angie’s right leg arguably earned the most attention (even getting its own Twitter account), her black high-slit Atelier Versace gown was – as husband Brad Pitt might say in Moneyball – a homerun.
Michelle Williams
Dazzling in red Louis Vuitton, Michelle Williams worked her pixie (haircut-inspired) magic, pairing her delicate lace peplum dress with a simple silver necklace.
Jessica Chastain
No surprise that Best Supporting Actress nominee Jessica Chastain achieved another fashion victory with her black and gold Alexandar McQueen gown. A major award season for the A-list actress, Jessica Chastain has been turning heads since before the autumn, cementing herself as a fashion heavyweight.
