We were saddened last month to learn of Amy Winehouse’s untimely passing, but to help maintain the singer’s legacy, Fred Perry has announced they plan to continue with the collection designed by the tragic vocalist.
In a statement, Perry explained that “after much consideration and with the blessing of Amy’s family, we have decided to release the AW11 Amy Winehouse for Fred Perry Collection”. He went on to say that “Amy was passionate and dedicated to our collaboration, and her signature style is clearly stamped across each piece.”
The designer then explained that Amy’s “royalties and fees from both collections will be donated to the soon-to-be-established Amy Winehouse foundation”, with Perry planning on making a donation as well.
With a “signature style” built around the girl groups of the 1960s, the beehived singer had previously stated her love for the designer and that she was “honoured” after he approached her.
Amy’s Dad, Mitch also confirmed news of the soon-to-be released line, saying that she would’ve wanted the collection to hit shelves and that it was “natural to continue”.
“Amy loved working on both collections and would want them to be made available,” he added.
Needless to say, with earlier collections earning acclaim for their classic look (and the 60s set to stay influential this upcoming season), Amy’s Fred Perry collaboration will be one of fall’s hottest tickets. If only she was still around to enjoy it.
