The Academy Awards is as big of a night for fashion as it is for film. What the celebrities wear on the red carpet will influence the colour and silhouette trends for the entire year. It can also solidify them as a fashion icon, with their red carpet look becoming part of style history. Of course, we’ll never forget Nicole Kidman’s yellow Dior gown (1997) or Julia Roberts in Valentino (2001). So, who will cause a buzz this year? Watch the Academy Awards this Sunday, March 2 at 7pm EST to find out.
Here are a few of my fashion predictions for this year’s Oscars’ red carpet:
Jennifer Lawrence
Nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, we expect big things from J-Law. I predict she’ll go with Dior once again (since she is the face of their new ad campaign), this time opting for a different silhouette and a more modern texture from the Spring 2014 Couture runway. Although, instead of the dress being short, I could see them extending the length to the floor for the Oscars.
Sandra Bullock
Nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, all eyes will be on Sandra. I would really like to see her in something dramatic, but still sophisticated. This Elie Saab Spring 2014 Couture dress is perfect because it is classic black, but the ombre into white and rich texture makes it modern, without being too trendy. The belted waist will also show off her rockin’ body.
Lupita Nyong’o
Probably the most anticipated fashionista of the evening will be Best Supporting Actress nominee, Lupita. Everyone is dying to see what she will wear. Lupita was seen sitting front row at the Fall 2014 Calvin Klein runway show last week, so I predict she’ll be wearing something custom from the designer on the big night. But, if we were to choosea look from the runways, I would love to see her in this white Alexis Mabille Spring 2014 Couture gown.
Amy Adams
Amy Adams is a bit of a wild card because she’s worn so many different styles and silhouettes this year. But, what we are noticing is she really loves to show off her body, so I definitely think she’ll wear something form-fitting. I love this peachy-blush Badgley Mischka gown. It is simple and chic and will look great on Amy.
Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett could wear a garbage bag and look fabulous. She is stunning! I am hoping to see Cate in this beautiful embellished Armani Prive gown from the Spring 2014 Couture runway. The colour and silhouette would be perfection on her.
Julia Roberts
Julia’s Valentino gown from the 2001 Oscars will forever be one of our favourites. So, I decided to choose another stunning Valentino look for this year’s red carpet. Although, it will be hard to top the original. Julia is nominated alongside Jennifer and Lupita for Best Supporting Actress.
Margot Robbie
Margot is this year’s newcomer and so far she’s been making all the right fashion choices. She leans towards an edgier and more modern look. That is why I chose this yellow Jenny Packham dress. It is youthful (she’s only 23!), but still stylish.
