The Fall 2019 Makeup Trends We’re Excited About

Looking to the runways to help inspire our fall looks is one of the best things about autumn, but some of the trends can feel a little daunting when they’re shown in such a high-fashion style. We love creating beauty looks that are a bit more approachable—a little more down-to-earth—still inspired by the trends that excite us the most (like ‘70s glamour and an easy-to-achieve monochromatic look). Especially when they’re so easy to create thanks to the beauty products we find at Shoppers Drug Mart (even better when we can order online).

We’ve rounded up five of the fall beauty trends we’re most excited about and the products we’re reaching for to create them.

Rosewood dreams
We love the terracotta and burnt orange shades that late summer and fall bring forward. But this season, it’s all about the rosewood (or at least that’s what makeup artist Romy Soleimani said backstage at Kate Spade). This not-quite-rose-gold-but-not-quite-pink hue is autumn’s moodier answer to a pretty pink face and keeps a bit of warmth as we head into the cold weather months.

Doe-eyed beauty
Consider this a bit more of a going-out look, but those Bambi-like, super-separated lashes are back for the fall season. This Twiggy-esque look demands a mascara that is buildable with loads of volume and separation, and only a bit of talent to get that separated appeal. Finish off with a light flush on the cheek and a barely there lip and you’re good to doe… er, go.

Fresh face
You wouldn’t think that a fresh, just-washed complexion could be a trend, but there’s always an antidote to the high-drama, bold makeup looks that we see on the runways, and this look is just that. It’s not quite a glowy, dewy finish—more a patted-dry clean face. To get this look, you know, without actually leaving the house bare-faced, the key is a matte-but-not-too-matte foundation. Maybelline’s latest formula has SPF 50 and a full coverage, lightweight finish to help you conceal any redness or blemishes while still achieving this runway-ready look.

‘70s glamour
The thing we love most about a ‘70s-inspired makeup look is that just about anything goes. Want some glitter? Slap some on. Looking for a pre-‘80s blue eyeshadow? That works too. Reach for a palette that has a bit of glitz, a bit of drama and lots of colour to create your own version of the ‘70s glam. Top it off with a dramatic winged eyeliner and you’re ready for your own catwalk.

Monochromatic + moody
One thing you can depend on in the fall is the resurgence of all things moody. We always look forward to the deep oxblood hues and midnight black shades that add drama to our everyday looks and help us live out our moody monochromatic dreams. Want to go the burgundy route? Pair a dark lip with a smoky eye that shares a similar colour palette. For a dark updated ‘90s vibe, black nails and a smudged eyeliner goes perfectly with a leather moto jacket and black denim.
