Product Review: Live Clean Age Resist Shampoo and Conditioner

What it is:

Live Clean Age Resist Shampoo and Conditioner. 350 ml bottles, $8.99 each. They claim to address the symptoms of aging hair, specifically dull, dry, fragile hair that has lost its lustre.
The shampoo and conditioner are 98% and 96% plant derived, respectively and are paraben, phthalate and phosphate free. Neither contains sulfates and both contain certified organic botanicals.

What's in it that works:

The shampoo contains certified organic rose hip oil along with avocado and hydrolyzed wheat protein which act to hydrate and improve thickness in hair texture. Rose hip oil is an alternative to the use of silicones, which tend to sit on the hair and build up over time with frequent use.
The conditioner contains certified organic rose hip oil, also, as well as avocado and the hydrolyzed wheat protein. The combination suggests a lightweight finish to the hair that has volume and shine.

And the verdict is:

The shampoo should be used sparingly and massaged into the scalp to allow for a good lather. If you use too much of the product, post-rinse, your wet hair may feel a little rough so less is definitely best here. This is, however, the effect of using a shampoo that does not contain silicones in it. The lack of silicones makes it a healthier alternative for your locks and, to alleviate the feeling this shampoo leaves on your hair, the conditioner is a must.

The conditioner is not of thick consistency which may have you thinking you need to pile it on to get the best results but the organic, hydrating ingredients allow this product to live in the "less is more" category, as a little goes a long way. Applying to the shaft from mid-way downwards and massaging it gently through the strands will allow the product to spread as necessary instead of adding more of it. Skip applying to the scalp, as you'll wind up with less volume if you apply it at the roots. Leaving this product on for three to five minutes may also aid in the hydration the natural ingredients it's delivering to your hair.

Overall, my recommendations are that this combo is best for someone with thin, delicate hair, someone who colours their hair frequently or anyone who suffers from product build up, as the shampoo, while claiming not to be stripping to the hair, will in fact remove styling products and other dirt, grime and debris from the hair very well. The fact that it is not doing so with heavy chemical ingredients is what sets it apart from a number of the new "age defying" hair care lines currently on the market.
