Toronto Fashion Week is back and to kick off this week packed with fashion and beauty, we tapped the backstage experts to see what they use to survive the week. We spoke with Grace Lee, lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York Canada to find out which products she can’t live without and to get some of her personal beauty secrets.
What are some of your backstage beauty essentials and what do you love about each of them?
Everyone (yes, even models) need their lashes curled and the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler is the best in the game. The Garnier SkinActive Clean+ Refreshing Remover Cleansing Towelettes are a godsend for removing makeup quickly (and also off the back of my hand when I’m demonstrating or testing out colours). Every colour in the Maybelline New York The Nudes Eye Shadow Palette gets used and every single Maybelline New York mascara is a staple–all of them.
What is one of your personal go-to products?
I’m in love with the Maybelline New York Contour Palette. The contour and blush colours are amazing with great pigment and I’m a huge fan of the highlighter. I can do my makeup with just this palette.
How do you keep your makeup looking fresh when you’re backstage all day, everyday?
I try to powder my T-zone if I get too shiny. If I’m drinking something (usually a big coffee) I drink it with a straw so I don’t ruin my lipstick.
What is your favourite multi-tasking product?
Every one that knows me knows I’m obsessed with Maybelline New York Baby Lips. I love using it on the skin as a dewy highlighter. It’s also great on the eyes and in the eyebrows. The tinted ones work well for blush. And when in a pinch, and I don’t have hand lotion, I rub Baby Lips into my cuticles.
What is one trend you’re the most excited about this season and what product can people use to achieve it now?
I’m loving the dark vampy lip! There’s so many lip products that can be used to create this colour. Color Sensational Lipcolor in Deepest Cherry might be the perfect shade!
