I've cultivated a reputation for being neutral, casual”a dresser of the non-loud variety. My wardrobe of white tees and medium denim (with a couple all-black outfits thrown in for good measure) is my own established norm. So colour me shocked when this season I found myself drawn to sparkle and shimmer.
Don't be confused”I haven't started wearing sequins and lamé©. That would be a step too far past my comfort zone. Instead, I've been playing with my beauty routine in order to incorporate a bit of subtle effervescence into my look”and not just for special occasions. Sparkle is definitely daytime appropriate when applied with a light hand and with a bit of direction.
Here, my top ways to incorporate a bit of metallic, sparkle and shine into your daytime beauty look (with a bit of help from the pros) without ditching your go-to duds. People will say you're glowing”but you know, subtly.
Make your next mani a metallic one

I’ve always been a fan of metallic polishes because gold, silver and copper are all neutrals, says Rita Remark, lead nail artist for essie Canada. They’re a no-brainer, they go with everything. For fall we’re especially loving copper”a rich hue that embraces the season, like Essie’s Penny Talk ($10, available at Shoppers Drug Mart). For a non-neutral nail option, Remark recommends using glittery polishes sparingly: I love lightly dabbing silver or gold glitter at the cuticle for an added bit of twinkle.
