We’ve been doing daily affirmations, like telling ourselves we’re worthy. Especially when it comes to spritzing on a little, or a lot, of Mugler’s latest eau de toilette, Angel Nova.
Lighter than it’s eau de parfum predecessor of the same name, this new elixir is a zesty combination of fruit and flowers. On first spritz, bright lychee and citrusy bergamot notes waft forward. Elegant rose and magnolia blooms soon emerge, giving the scent a creamy, dreamy quality, while warm Virginia cedar and intimate musk ground the eau in primal, albeit ethereal way. Still, this eau was meant for stardom. Pretty in its pink glass, star-shaped flacon, its overall impact is vibrant and velvety, welcoming and wondrous and of course, because it is a Mugler, a touch of unbridled sensuality.
Sensuality in perfumery is, after all, a Thierry Mugler signature. One the French fashion designer never failed to bring to life as equally in his bottles as he did on the runway. With a decades-long fragrance career that started with the birth of the now cult-favourite Angel perfume, Mugler empowered women to embrace their decadent side if only through his scents. Favourites that include, the sunny, heady floral Alien, the gender-fluid warm and woodsy Les Exceptions Ambre Redoutable and the leather soaked Alien Les Parfums de Cuir.
We’re grateful for these bits of glass and liquid that capture his life’s work, as sadly, the great designer passed away at the age of 73 years on January 24, 2022. His talent will be deeply missed. We intend to keep his visionary gifts alive, by continuing to spritz and enjoy them. After all, we’re worthy.
