After seasons of brunette and red hair love, it seems only logical the two hair colour trends would synergize in one luxe hue. Chocolate cherry is the choice hair colour of the season.
Colour specialist Alex Laberge who is an educator for L’Oreral Professional explains just as the name suggests, this hair colour consists of a rich brown base shade with cool dark red undertones. Celebrity fans of the trend include Dove Cameron, Grace Van Patten, Gemma Chan, and Selina Gomez.
Read on for more from Laberge including what he loves about chocolate cherry hair colour, who can wear it and how to best maintain colour richness and shine of this sweet shade
Why is chocolate cherry a fresh and creative hair colour choice of the moment?
“After several years of everyone wanting cooler shades, it’s great to see a return of warm shades, especially for brunettes,” Laberge says. “We are hair colourists have some really innovative new products to work with which allow us to really personalize hair colour and create bespoke results.”
Does chocolate cherry hair colour work for everyone?
“It absolutely can, but personally I would suggest it if you are already a brunette because it is a darker shade making it easier to create. If you have a lighter base hair colour like blonde, make sure you want to commit the look for a while as it will be difficult to lighten up.”
Is this a high maintenance hair colour choice?
“It’s not, and there are a few ways to explore chocolate cherry hair colour. Your colourist can create the look in salon a few different ways. If you have brunette hair, you can have a gloss applied to your hair to achieve the look which will naturally fade out over time. If love the look, you can have your hair re-glossed as required. For a more intensive look, you can have your colourist place highlights and lowlights throughout your hair in tones of cherry red and chocolate brown and seamlessly blend them together to create a beautiful look.”
What type of home care products do you recommend prolonging colour brilliance?
“You definitely need to be using a colour care line to gently cleanse and condition hair,” Laberge explains. “I am a fan of the three-step L’Oreal Professional Serie Metal Detox line which not only preserves colour but prevents hair breakage and detoxifies hair after colour to keep it healthy and glossy.”
