Let’s stop talking about Kimye’s wedding for five minutes, please. Because the truth is, there have been countless of beautiful celebrity weddings before theirs and gorgeous brides who were at the centre of it all. Let’s take a look down memory lane, shall we? The gowns, accessories, make-up, down to the personal touches – here are our favourite celebrity bridal looks:
Kate Middleton
You can’t talk bridal without mentioning Kate Middleton. Her look was revolutionary, putting modern bridal styles on it’s head and reintroducing the world to chic and traditional (Say goodbye to sleeveless, world…). The mind behind the timeless look was none other than Sara Burton, creative designer of Alexander McQueen. The dress featured an ivory satin bodice, inspired by Victorian era dress styles. It came with lace long sleeves which came into a narrow v-neckline and was finished off with a gorgeous full length skirt. Wedding dress designers predict Middleton’s wedding dress will influence bridal gown trends for years to come.
Kelly Clarkson
It looks like this American Idol alum got some bridal style pointers from the Royal Duchess. Lace sleeves, anyone? Clarkson kept it beautifully rustic and vintage in her Temperley Bridal dress by designer Alice Temperley. It was a full length lace gown, with adorable buttoned sleeves and v-neck. The look was finished off with a loose up-do and a sparkly, diamond headband. Clarkson looked elegant at her perfect fall wedding.
Victoria Beckham
Throwing it back all the way to 1999, to when Beckham was better known as Posh, one of the four remaining members of the Spice Girls. On Beckham’s special day, she wore a Vera Wang strapless, satin ball gown. She kept it simple with minimal makeup and pixie-cut hair, making her itty-bitty waist the main focus of it all.
Katie Holmes
The marriage didn’t last but I guess you could say Katie Holmes’ bridal look was timeless! Back at her 2006 wedding to Tom Cruise, Holmes wore a strapless Armani gown with an over-the-shoulder top. Her gown was decorated with lace and Swarovski crystals which was complemented with a dramatic floor length veil.
Alicia Keys
Now for something a little different. Alicia Keys wore a Grecian inspired ivory silk gown by Vera Wang when she married her hubby Swizz Beatz back in 2010. It was a one-shoulder, loose fitting gown that highlighted her growing baby bump. The beautiful mother-to-be looked like the ultimate goddess with her crystal headpiece from Jacob & Co and bun up-do.
Gwen Stefani
If you know anything about Gwen Stefani, you would know that she has cool, wicked style. If you thought she was going to opt for an old-fashioned, conventional, wedding gown – think again. This rocker wore a gown by John Galliano for Dior that had a custom pink ombre at the bottom of the dress. Talk about pretty in pink!
Kate Moss
Like Stefani, supermodel Kate Moss also opted for an unconventional wedding gown. Her boho chic dress was also by John Galliano. It was sequined throughout until the very bottom of the skirt, which ended with gorgeous patterned detailing. The gown goes slightly sheer from her thighs down, keeping her look light and fresh. She wore a matching veil and left her hair loose and natural.
Ivanka Trump
Trump teamed up with coveted wedding dress designer Vera Wang to recreate this modernized version of Grace Kelly’s wedding gown. Trump’s gown came with a 3-layered lace skirt and lace sleeves that went halfway down her arms and along her chest. Her romantic look was finished off with cool, wavy hair and circle-shaped diamond earrings.
Ellen Degeneres & Portia di Rosso
We couldn’t have one without the other! This duo looked absolutely wonderful on their special day. They both wore Zac Posen designs for their 2008 nuptials. Rosso wore a backless halter gown with a plunging neckline and a ballerina tutu inspired pale pink skirt. Degeneres on the other hand stayed true to her style and wore a tailored ensemble consisting of white trousers, and white dress shirt under a matching vest.
Anne Hathaway
Last but certainly not least, we leave you with Anne Hathaway’s ethereal Valentino number. According to the official dress sketches, the off-the -shoulder, ivory silk gown featured satin flower details and a matching headpiece made of lace ribbon, crystal beads and matching flower detail. To make the dress extra special, Valentino added a pink tint at the bottom of the dress for a fun-loving, girlish flair.
