Every season it’s tempting to simply throw your summer clothes to the back of your closet and head to the stores for a new wardrobe, but unfortunately with other expenses in mind it’s not that easy to simply open your wallet and refill your closet. Increase your wardrobe size with just a few simple fall staples. Here are some tips on how to reuse your summer clothing into the early weeks of fall so you can make your wardrobe go an extra mile in the cold.
The Floral Dress
Flowers are no longer something to wear just in the warmer seasons as seen in Anna Sui’s fall collection. Simply wear your floral shirtdress and other shorter dresses with a pair of opaque tights to bring out one of the colours in your dress. On top, wear a neutral coloured blazer. You’ll be career ready and filter in the last touch of summer as the temperature sinks bringing a little joy to others. Remember for this trend you’ll need to make sure the hemline is above the knee.
The Layering Tank Top
Tanks are great all year round to adding more dimensions to any outfit. Layer under shirts and sweaters to add more colour to everything. Racer back tank are great to wear with off the shoulder or slightly transparent knitwear.
Peep Toe Sandals
With the rules of fashion becoming more flexible everyday, sandals can still be worn for the first weeks of fall before any signs of snow hit the ground. Keep your feet warm by wearing stylish lace or patterned tights. Pair them with your favourite skirt or dress.
The Mini Skirt
The classic mini skirt is easily translatable to the colder seasons. Simply pair with boots and your favourite long sleeve blouse. Finish off with a scarf around the neck and you’ll be ready for the nippier mornings. Remember try to opt for your mini skirts in fall hues such as maroon, emerald green, neutrals like black, brown and grey, or patterns, such as the hounds tooth or herringbone. Stay away from bright floral patterns and graphics in summery hues to keep it seasonal.
The Maxi Dress
Before you pack away your maxi dresses until next spring, try layering on a turtleneck underneath or wearing a thick long cardigan on top. Accessorize with a chucky necklace and finish with a long pair of boots and your autumn ready!
The Silk Equipment Blouse
The silk equipment blouse with its light material and laid-back style is great to translate into your fall wardrobe of skinny jeans and a motorcycle leather jacket. This is also a great way to introduce pops of colour into your fall wardrobe without looking like you can’t let go of the summer! Top off with a scarf for colder mornings.
Dress shorts
Similar to the mini skit, dress shorts worn with patterned or knit tights are just like another skirt or pair of pants. For footwear keep it to booties or a pair of smoking slippers. Avoid knee length boots for this look to keep it sophisticated and tasteful.
The Coloured Jean
Tone down spring and summers’ bright coloured jeans with neutral colored blouses and sweaters and complete your outfit with a pair of pointy heels and a city bag. Even extra attention grabbing colours, such as yellow and coral, can work when paired with knitwear and blouses in warm neutrals, such as browns and taupes.
