Every lady knows that a classic trench coat is a wardrobe must-have. Its classic cut screams togetherness, even if you’re secretly wearing your PJs underneath. However, just because trench coats are considered a beautiful basic, that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. Here are some ideas for a twist on the classic trench coat.
Color
Take a cue from April O’Neil (yes, that’s a Ninja Turtle’s reference) with her awesome yellow trench: color is one way to bust out of that basic trench coat rut. Primary colors are making a big comeback (yellow, red and blue), and bright colors will also help you get through the doom and gloom of a rainy day and will look super cute with matching gumboots. For a night out, why not try a metallic shade or an all-over floral print? If you’re not feeling adventurous but want to try a bolder hue, invest in a cute oversized colorful belt to add over your trench for a flirty finish.
Texture
Gone are the days of a single material state of mind for the trench. Expand your choices and you’ll discover a whole array of different trench textures! For a feminine touch, choose a pastel trench in satin; or for an eye-grabbing alternative, look for a jacket with faux leather panels. Looking for cosy and chic? The quilted look is in this season, and you can find it in the form of a longer trench coat.
Cut
Thanks to the modern day market, you are able to choose the final cut for your trench coat. Choose whether to go short and sassy over that cute holiday dress, or long and lean to pair with your skinny jeans. Looking for function over flair? Choose a coat with a hood to hide you from those pesky rain drops this winter. For the most flattering fit, chose a trench that’s cut just above the knee”this looks good on all body types. If you’re pear-shaped, invest in a trench that cinches at the waist and flares slightly over the hips. Pleats look great for this cut as well.
No matter what type of trench you try out this season, it’s always good to know not to forget the classics. For meetings on the go, shopping or date night, a trench coat can pull together any outfit, any time.
