Top Sweaters for Fall 2012

Don’t sweat it when the cold winter comes! Be prepared with a chic fall knit. Here’s the top sweaters you should be scouring the racks for now!

The Classic Cable Knit
Channel ski-resort chic with a fitted, cable knit popover in a jewel tone this season. Layer with a collared shirt for the office or layer under an anorak with skinny jeans and cool booties for the weekend. Bonus points if you pick one with a fun fair isle pattern.

Try: J.Crew Cashmere Collection Cable Sweater (available in various colours), $278.

Colour Blocking
Sweaters are taking a cue from spring’s biggest colour trend this fall. Look tops with horizontal stripes in bright primaries or baseball style sweaters with different coloured sleeves.

Try: ASOS Jumper In Space Dye Colour Block, $49.

Animal Kingdom
Don’t be afraid to get wild when the weather starts to turn chilly. Sweaters emblazoned with animals (think cats, tigers, dogs, and birds) are as quirky as they are on trend. Shearling is also making a huge comeback this season, so look for cozy knits with faux fur details around the collar, sleeves and bodice.

Try: Forever XXI Feline Graphic Sweater, $24.

Structure
Thick, waffle knits with strong shoulders, peplum waists and shapely cowl necks and square lapels take regular sweaters and cardigans new levels of stylish. Don’t think this means your knits need to be skintight. Loose, long, voluminous styles also reign supreme. Pair them with sleek looking with leggings or a leather pencil skirt to be on trend.

Try: Autumn Cashmere Button Back Peplum Sweater in Tomato, $320.
