Every girl needs one (even if they think they don’t). And we all know the look of a girl sporting a bad bra. You can see her coming a mile away. Why won’t anyone tell her she’s not doing herself any favours, you think? However, finding a good bra is no easy feat. That being said, nothing can transform a look for the better as easily as a good bra. With that in mind, here are some tips we think are handy for you to keep in mind, the next time you go shopping.
Stop. And assess.
Before you even walk out that door, take a good look and do a thorough inventory of what you do have already. Most women are wearing the wrong size bra. So, try them all on and ask an honest friend what they think. Things you should be looking out for are:
- No spillage over the front, bottom or sides. Need we say more? Never, ever a good look.
- If you can fit two fingers or more between your straps, it’s time to toss.
- If there’s wearing, thinning of material, time for the garbage
- The centre wire needs to sit flat against your sternum. If it doesn’t, it’s the wrong size.
For heaven’s sake. Get measured.
Just because you were measured once when you were 15 doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to get done again. Measuring for the right bra size, unfortunately isn’t a once in a lifetime event. You need to get this done at minimum of once a year. More if you’ve lost or gained weight.
You need a selection of these to get your through your everyday life. Under t-shirts or for work. Make sure you try on your bra with whatever you will be wearing it with so you get a sense of what it will look like. Be prepared to test your patience and give yourself a good chunk of time.
It’s like shopping for shoes. There is an endless selection of options out there “ lace, colours, fabrics, shapes and styles. Expand your selection as much as you can and have fun with it.
