There is nothing like the changing of the seasons to use as an excuse to completely update your wardrobe. Now that the weather is heating up shorts must be bought, and tanks tops can be worn sans cover-up. Since summer time calls for fewer layers, it can be tough to keep your outfits looking unique and trendy. That’s where accessories come in! Aside from the obvious necessities (sunnies and sandals), check out these top accessories for spring 2011 to add some pizzazz to your simple summer outfits.
Hats
If you are feeling inspired by the royal wedding and want to try wearing a cute hat, go for it! Hats are a fun addition to any outfit, and there are so many different styles to choose from. It’s spring; so go for something in a light fabric, or straw. Fedoras are still in, but even better for spring 2011 are wider brim hats. Bonus points if it has a flower or a bow on it.
Try a hat with a large floppy brim like this one like Nine West’s Straw Floppy Bow Hat, $36. Available at Nine West.
Bags
This season has been all about bright colours and colour blocking. But this trend is not just for your clothes, it works for bags too. Solid coloured satchels and pouches have been spotted all over the runways, and the streets this season. Celine came up with the coloured leather pouch (that almost looks like an oversized pencil case), and American Apparel makes an equally cute, yet cheaper version (seen below). For $60, this purchase is a no-brainer. The only question is; what colour?
Belts
An eye-catching belt can be the perfect addition to a simple pair of shorts or a loose dress. You can go super colourful with this accessory too, or you can embrace another spring 2011 trend – snakeskin. Leopard is out, and snakeskin is totally in. And what better way to covet this trend than to wear it on your hips (which don’t lie).
Try The Gap’s Skinny Faux Snakeskin Belt, $29.95. Available at The Gap.
Headscarves
Wrapping a beautiful silk, patterned scarf around your head is a great way to switch up your usual hairdo. It’s very boho chic, and there are so many different ways to tie it. Not to mention the most obvious benefit “ it’s ability to hide a bad hair day with greatest of ease. A scarf will add interest to your out fit, pull back your hair on a hot day, and show off your beautiful face. It’s a win-win-win!
Zara’s Printed Scarf doubles as a great headscarf, $39.90. Available at Zara.
Tribal Necklaces
The hot jewelry trend for this season has got to be tribal inspired necklaces. People tend to wear the same jewelry day-to-day, so if you are looking for a new piece to update your jewelry box this season, why not try something different?
Necklaces, like this one by Sequin have incredible detail, and they make even the simplest of shirts look like a work of art, $140. Available at polyvore.com.
