Beauty Review: John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight Styling Spray for Curly Hair

When outside temps get steamy, frizzy hair is not far behind, which is why John Frieda 3-Day Straight Styling Spray for Curly Hair, $14.99 is like a  summer hair saviour.

What it is:
A semi-permanent styling spray, targeted towards curly-and-wavy haired gals. Its purpose? To make hair visibly straighter and silky smooth for three full days after a blow-dry.

How it works:
What I loved most about the
John Frieda 3-Day Straight Styling Spray for Curly Hair was the design of the bottle. I’ve tried many other straightening products in the past, all of which require you to slather some form of serum throughout your hair. This product is as straight-forward and convenient as hairspray. The directions recommend spraying the product throughout damp hair 7-15 times (or more depending on the length and thickness of your strands.) Considering the density and wave in my hair, I gave my locks a couple extra spritzes.

To make sure you distribute the product evenly throughout your tresses, it’s recommended to brush your hair as you spritz. Then, blow-dry your locks straight (I found this to be easiest while using a paddle hair brush.) Typically when I blow-dry, my hair transforms into a Marge Simpson-esque ‘do, but after using this product, however, my strands were noticeably smoother.

After you blow-dry, straighten your hair with a flat-iron as you usually would. While my hair straightener has never failed me in the past, after using John Frieda 3-Day Straight Styling Spray for Curly Hair, I noticed a huge difference. My hair was much softer, and my usual straightening routine was cut in half.

The verdict:
The next morning, my hair wasn’t as straight as it was the night before, but it was definitely an improvement compared to when I usually wake up. The main thing I was concerned about was the return of my ultra-frizz, but this product seemed to diminish my frizz completely. Not only that, but when I straightened my hair again, it barely required any effort at all. The product claims you can touch up your hair after day 1, and let me tell you, a touch up is all it was. Other than that, the product stood true to its word.

Is it worth the hype:
There’s been lots of controversy over some professional permanent hair-straightening treatments, because they contain a chemical called formaldehyde, which is a cancer causing substance (yikes!). However, John Frieda’s 3-day straightening product uses keratin instead, a type of protein that is a key structural component of hair. I was also concerned about my hair becoming dry and brittle, but it has been over three days now, and my tresses remain silky smooth!
