Earlier in December, we mentioned that Ms. Serena van der Woodsen was basically a shoe-in for the next Chanel campaign, especially since she and esteemed Uncle Karl had been building on a friendship that had begun after being introduced by Anna Wintour in July of last year. And surprise surprise, the news has been confirmed. (Gasp!)
Slated to appear in a campaign photographed by Karl Lagerfeld himself this coming March, Blake Lively is officially the new face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag line, thus joining the ranks of Lily Allen, Vanessa Paradis and Diane Kruger who’ve also modelled for the iconic label.
Lagerfeld praised his latest muse, explaining “she’s kind of an American dream girl. I think she will become a great actress. [The shoot] was an easy job because everyone fell in love with her”, while Ms. Lively herself was filled with nothing but pure, unbridled enthusiasm:
“How did Cinderella feel when she slipped on the glass slipper? How did Snow White feel when she met her Prince Charming? A dream come true is an understatement. I can say that I feel like the happiest, luckiest girl around.”
But wait, there’s more: “I will always feel [the bag] is more than just a purse. It’s quilted full of lipstick, love letters and the dreams and possibilities that I have always felt every time I see that beautiful CC.”
No word yet on whether this abundance of poetic praise will get her a gig as Don Draper’s protege on the upcoming season of Mad Men.
