Christina Aguilera is on the cover of the February 2012 issue of Marie Claire magazine. In the spread, Aguilera changes her look from her usual ill-fitting dresses and bright-red lips. Instead, they opted for a more subdued look with neutral make-up, wavy curls and sexy yet classy wardrobe choices. In the accompanying interview, the singer opens up about her family and her fluctuating weight that had everyone talking in 2011.
“That was a rough year. Between my divorce and the other things I went through, a lot happened. It’s hard for anyone to go through that in public. But when you’re a celebrity and under a microscope, it’s 58 million times harder,” Aguilera admits. “I grew an even thicker skin after that hard year. I’ve been through my highs, I’ve been through my lows; I’ve been through the gamut of all things in this business.”
In 2011, Aguilera got a lot of flak for her increasing waist-line. But, The Voice judge says she doesn’t let those comments get to her.
“Being too thin. Being bigger. I’ve been criticised for being on both sides of the scale. It’s noise I block out automatically. I love my body. My boyfriend loooves my body. My son is healthy and happy, so that’s all that matters to me.”
In fact, Aguilera says she doesn’t even weigh herself. Instead, she tracks her weight by the way her clothes fit and how she feels about herself.
I have certain physical features that I favour over others. We all have our areas. I happen to be very confident in my own skin. It takes time to get to that place, but it’s all about embracing yourself and your body.
Marie Claire‘s Febuary 2012 issue hits stands on January 17.
