Christian Louboutin is celebrating 20 years in the fashion business with a capsule collection that encompasses some of his most iconic work.
“In France, 20 years defines a generation, Louboutin said. “This is a celebration of the first generation of this brand; an anniversary of its first young adventure.
The limited-edition collection is made up of all the things women dream of — bright coloured pumps, bows, embellishments, feathers, and lots of bling. Just for fun, Louboutin threw in the Pilule bag, which resembles an actual 500mg pill.
When I was working on my book [which also celebrates the anniversary], I realized there are certain ideas that have always come back into my designs. For example, I have always loved showgirls and have done many things in reference to those birds of paradise, Louboutin explains of his capsule collection. The Bow Bow is about transparency, and the Havana Trash is what I imagine is on the floor at the Tropicana. I’ve always worked with artisans from different countries, as well as artists, like the 25-year-old graffiti artist Nicolas Michel who tagged some of our shoes. This collection is about all of those things.
In part with his 20th anniversary, The London Design Museum is hosting a retrospective exhibition on Louboutin’s work. The exhibition includes the history behind the designer’s iconic red soles and a collection of his designs that include stilettos, pumps, sneakers and lace-up boots. Visitors will also have the chance to see the process of shoe-making, from the design sketch to final production.
