If New York and London Fashion Weeks were to be in competition, the city across the pond may have just taken it to a whole new level. On Thursday, the British department store Selfridges’ debuted its brand new shoe department – at a whopping 35,000 square feet!
Boasting 5000 pairs representing 120 brands, both designer and “high end” styles will be represented, with River Island, Jimmy Choo and All Saints being counted among its roster. With six different salons decorated vastly different (and when we say “different”, we mean “in one room the shoes appear to float on glass”), there’s also an abundance of plush fuchsia seating that far surpass the standard “try-on” benches at any old shoe store (but clearly Selfridges is some sort of shoe palace).
With 11 different designer boutiques situated throughout, it’s no surprise that in addition to the shops within a shop, a French eatery is also on location – for times when refueling surpasses the need to channel Carrie Bradshaw.
Director of accessories Sebastian Manes went on to say “the new department will fit perfectly into the essence of what Selfridges is – a place where everyone can find something extraordinary to buy, from the inexpensive to the luxurious”.
So it seems that wish London Fashion Week kicking into high gear, the luxurious may run out over the former – after all, with some of the most highly-anticipated collections being debuted this week, aren’t shoes needed to go with them?
