The '90s was no golden age for horror movies, but it did give us some sweet meta and gore-filled wonders like the Scream trilogy, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Urban Legend. Revisiting these is great for a laugh (or an excuse for a cuddle) in the spook-filled month of October, but it's a rare one that will truly scare you. If you want to get chilled right to the bone, check out these '90s horror flicks that were, and still are, freaky AF.
Candyman (1992)
Don’t pass this one off as another mediocre urban legend movie that came out of the ’90s. Candyman received mostly positive reviews and praise for its smart plot and nuance. The supernatural mystery is centred around a student researching urban legends who learns about the local Chicago legend “the candy man”–a killer who appears when you say his name five times into a mirror, and will then murder whoever summoned him with his hook-for-a-hand. It’s gory and eerie, with good acting. Save it for Halloween night. And try the mirror trick yourself (IF YOU DARE).
