5 Easy Homemade Valentine’s Day Gifts

If your partner isn’t into the whole chocolates and heart-shaped trinkets deal, but you still want to give them something on the day o’ love, go homemade. Putting a little more thought and effort into a DIY creation makes your gift a lot more intimate, which is what Valentine's day is, in theory, all about, right? Here are 5 easy options, taking pointers froma few of the craftiest bloggers on the interwebs.

BBQ spice rubs

If your partner fancies himself a grill master, a few jars of spice mixes tailored to his taste will stoke his cooking inspiration. Grab a few decorative glass jars and mix up a quarter cup each of sea salt and brown sugar, 2 tablespoons each of pepper, garlic powder, dried basil, dried oregano, and chile powder. Mix 'em up, and stick on a label on your creation. Bon apetit.

Movie night package

Burn one of his favourite films to a disc and pair it with some homemade bacon kettle corn and some Twizzlers you’ve got yourself a ready-made date night. Bonus points if you go 3D and include two pairs of 3D glasses (because, you know, who doesn’t look hot in those?)

A body pillow

With basic sewing skills, you can make a sweet body pillow (or, for that matter, any pillow at all), to match your partner’s dé©cor. A big, squishy pillow makes any winter night a little more comfy. This one’s a big-un. Be prepared to ready some room in your bed.

Coasters

If your partner loves entertaining, he’ll dig a set of handmade coasters with character. Print some of your favourite photos of yourselves for Instagram-coasters, or use his favourite beer labels to give those brews a suitable stand.

Book ends

Wood + modge podge + decorative weighted trinkets of your choice. (Think: baseballs, spray painted plastic animal toys, LEGO creations, mason jar terrariums) DIY book ends can be made cheaply and with few materials, but can be time consuming depending on what decoration you choose. If you’ve got a couple hours, book ends are the perfect gift for someone with a big book collection.
