Beauty Bulletin: Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2019, Day 1

ICYMI, Toronto Fashion Week is back in action this week, showcasing the spring 2019 collections from Canada’s top designers. In between catching the fashion shows, you can find us backstage hanging out with makeup pro Simone Otis and her squad of makeup artists with beautyBoutique by Shoppers Drug Mart to give you daily recaps of our favourite makeup looks. Kicking off the week, here are our fave looks from day one.

Victoria Hayes: Shades of  Pink
Otis describes this look as fresh, but not timid. Keeping the skin super natural looking, Otis gave the skin a lit-from-within-glow with highlighter. For the eyes and lips, she wanted to keep the look monochromatic with pink and a bit of shine. “For the eyes, we’re using PUR Eye Polish, which has a luminescence to it without chunks of glitter. It does that kind of lumi-feel,” she explains. As for the lips, Otis was excited that designer Victoria Hayes pushed for fuchsia. “We haven’t seen this lip colour in a while and this was a great opportunity for my [team] to finally use it. This kind of a lip looks good on anyone. It’s a great way to dress up any outfit, especially with the texture of the Bourjois lipsticks.” To create the perfect bold lip, Otis suggests swapping out a lip liner for a large brush designed for drawing lines, especially if you have trouble lining your lips with a pencil.

Get the look: Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter ($42), PUR Eye Polish in Satin ($34), Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in RS318 ($32),  Bourjois Rouge Lipstick in Fuchsia Botte ($24).

Namesake: White Lines
Keeping things fresh and bold, without taking attention away from the one-of-a-kind designs from Namesake’s spring collection, Otis and her team created six different white eyeliner looks. “We decided to do white eyeliner in different ways because we’re playing with the fact that each [model]  is wearing a different and unique jacket,” says Otis. “I wanted to unify everybody with something that is cool and modern.” If you’re bold enough to try white eyeliner, Otis suggests experimenting with opaque-finish liners. “White eyeliner has this super clean look. Everyone goes for black, which always has a punk and retro feel — and I love that, but white is a little fresher and more daytime and artistic,” she adds. Otis kept the rest of the face clean with full brows and a nude lip.

Get the look: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Snow White ($29),  Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Dolce and/or Carmello($29).

Mani Jassal: Free Spirit
In keeping with Mani Jassal’s free-spirited, bohemian-themed collection, Otis captured a boho vibe but with a little glam. The look consists of soft colours and dewy skin, but for that extra wow-factor, Jassal and Otis decided to give this look some feathery lashes. “I love how the look is pulled back but we’re doing a full lash at the same time. It’s warm and easy colours, but it still has that money impact,” says Otis. “I wouldn’t describe the look as a no-makeup-look, because that’s not money. The lashes give this new bohemian look a feathery feel, almost like a doe-y feel,” she explains.

Get the look: Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream ($29), Benefit Cosmetics False Lashes ($20), Smashbox Liquid Lipstick in Big Spender ($28), Urban Decay Hi Fi Shine Ultra-Cushion Lipgloss in Rapture ($23)
