Kerry Washington graces the cover of Allure magazine's November issue with a fresh face with minimal makeup. This might not seem like a newsworthy piece of information, or even something blog-worthy, but trust me, this is a very big deal.
We live in a world where we are constantly told to cover up our blemishes, lighten the dark circles around our eyes, wear gloss that plumps our lips, and contour/highlight our entire faces. And here is Ms. Washington being a total badass, looking as gorgeous as ever, proving that perhaps less really is more.
Okay, so Washington is definitely wearing a bit of makeup in this photo, but far less than what is the norm for magazine covers. She's got a bit of balm on her lips, some eye shadow and mascara, and base foundation. The au naturel makeup is paired with tousled hair and an ivory robe for that sexy 'just got our of bed' look.
We should all take a little note from this cover and experiment with actually leaving our houses without any makeup on. This girl from Buzzfeed did it for a week, and she found herself loving her freckles and getting a lot more sleep each morning (who doesn't love that!?). Maybe we can use Washington's move as inspiration to do the same and find that maybe (just maybe) we even like the way we look without the help of cosmetic companies.
The November issue of Allure hits newsstands on October 28.
