There's many reasons why we love Katy Perry. The popstar is fun, fierce and a kick-ass performer. Not to mention she's gorgeous, and we're always trying to get the inside scoop on her beauty secrets, but it's impossible because her look is always changing. Well Katy Cats, we've uncovered the secret. For her latest video “This is How We Do,” makeup artist Jake Bailey shares his tips and tricks on how he created seven different looks for the video, and how you at home can capture her fun and playful signature style.
The Base:
Picture yourself on the set of Katy's new video and it's time for your close-up. Try COVERGIRL Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation. Buff a small amount over your face and neck using a soft, flat tipped kabuki brush and it will give you that flawless airbrush effect.
Everyone knows that Katy has these famous “Katy cat-eyes,” so Bailey started off with COVERGIRL LiquilineBlast Eyeliner in Black Fire to create that strong eye definition working that into her lash line. After that, go over it with pencil line using COVERGIRL Bombshell Intensity Liner. If you really want your lashes to pop than you can add false eyelashes, added with a coat of Bombshell Curvaceous by LashBlast Mascara, and then BOOM! You've got Katy Perry eyes!
Karaoke Look:
You have to look your best when singing karaoke. For the karaoke look, Bailey used COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipcolor in Flame and Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Fired Up Pink. This way, even the people in the back of the room can see you rock out.
Ice Cream Truck Look:
The ice cream truck scene is probably my favourite scene in the entire video because of Katy's bold lipstick. She swapped lipstick colours and went with a fun and flirty pink shade from CoverGirl called “Bombshell,” then added some “Sapphire Flare” eyeshadow to top it all off. Now that's how we do.
60s Look
Red Lipstick Dress Look:
Katy's red lipstick dress was a hot outfit (the driving scene), so to match that bright red dress, an extra contour and highlight was added to her lips by using LipPerfection in Hot. To achieve that 70's era glamour, you can add a little glow to your cheekbones and some liquid eye shadow (Bombshell ShineShadow in Ice Queen) to create highlights.
Ping Pong and Fur Jacket Looks:
The next look is the multicoloured faux fur jacket. To match the colours of the jacket, Bailey switched to LipPerfection in Yummy, added with a Molten Black colour eyeshadow along her eyelid. This is the same look you see in the ping pong scene as well.
60s Look:
Yellow is definitely her colour! This 60's inspired dress, along with her Sassoon style hair kicked it up a notch using even more "" shadow.
Bathtub Look:
The bathtub scene was a 1920's look inspired by Coco Chanel. Bailey used a tattoo cover-up to hide Katy's real brows and drew on pencil- thin ones, creating that true “Flapper” look.
Now watch Jake Bailey's magic it in action!
