Fragrance of the Month: Mugler Alien Goddess EDP

If you haven’t watched the television series Younger, we won’t judge, but we’ll wait while you start binging. A contemporary equivalent to Sex & the City (yes, it’s that good), the show is LOL hilarious, fashion worthy and features one of our favourite actresses Molly Bernard as Lauren Heller who is one part outrageous, one part truth serum and all parts fantastic, including the crazy that comes out of her mouth. That said, we’re totally on board with Heller when she calls her BFFs goddesses. Come on, who doesn’t want to be in the same company as Venus, Isis or Lakshmi?

It’s one of the reasons we’re spritzing Mugler’s latest Alien creation, Goddess.

An olfactory experience that’s as comforting as a warm blanket as it is as empowering as Greek mythology’s Aphrodite, Goddess feels familiar and exciting. The parfum opens with bubbly, radiant notes of Italian bergamot essence and coconut, the latter gives props to Mugler’s fragrant DNA of perfumes past. Heady and green Indian jasmine with sweet fruit-like heliotrope blooms rush forward before being enveloped into an elixir of warm and sunny vanilla with calm and soothing cashmeran notes. The overall effect is powerful and compelling, seductive and forward.

As longtime fans of Mugler’s Alien incarnations this juxtaposition of soft with strength is not surprising. Thierry Mugler, the iconic French fashion designer behind the brand is renowned for his modern take on femininity. Which explains the mix-mastery and composition of the eau’s notes and its real-life embodiment of 21-year-old spokesmodel, Willow Smith as the face of the fragrance. Best known for her song and video “Whip My Hair,” Smith’s inclusive and edgy aesthetic confirm that Goddess is intended for women who lead, love and live life out loud. Kind of like our tv-fave, Lauren Heller, who we think needs to start spritzing a little Goddess on stat.

Mugler Alien Goddess EDP, $140 for 60 ml, available at Hudson’s Bay.
