When it comes to fragrance, we can be incredibly nostalgic. In particular, spritzing anything and everything reminiscent of the ‘80s, our favourite time-period for perfume.
Cacharel fits perfectly into this niche. While we acknowledge the brand was founded by designer Jean Bousquet in France in 1962, its premiere eau, Anaïs Anaïs made its international debut in 1978 and then, later, on our wrists during the decade of decadence. Which, for us, means that every time Cacharel launches a new scent, we need it immediately. So obviously we’re utterly smitten with its latest incarnation, Yes I Am Bloom Up!
What began with the original Yes I Am, an amber floral in 2018, has since been trailed by two fruity floral editions, Pink First in 2019 and Glorious in 2021, Fabulous’ amber vanilla in 2020, and Delicious’ fruity floral gourmand in 2022. Bloom Up! now follows suit, and like its predecessors is comprised of an irresistible mix of fruit, flowers and optimism.
The eau de parfum opens with fresh red berries and tart green mandarin notes before being absorbed into a bouquet of sweet peony and orange blossom blooms. A warm and intimate blend of caramel and vanilla-like benzoin with creamy and earthy sandalwood add delectable nuances of texture. The overall effect is, like the name suggests, positive and dynamic, sparkling and joyous. It’s youthful and definitive presence gives us happy flashbacks to the era we love. For the grand finale, the juice is mesmerizing in pink and captured in Yes I Am’s iconic lipstick shaped glass flacon.
Cacharel, Yes I Am, Bloom Up!, $89 for 50ml, available at Shoppers Drug Mart.
