Getting tired of grabbing dinner and a movie with your beau? Continually looking for the next best date night”and feel like you’ve tried all the latest restaurants and seen all the newest movies? If you’ve been with your partner for a zillion years and you’re looking to spice it up (in the sweatiest, most non-romantic form possible) these active dates will get you there.
Remember when you were a kid and you got super excited to delve into the questionable ball pit at McDonald’s? I sure do. Toronto has something even better for your adult self: a 10,000 square-foot, fully functioning, indoor obstacle course. Pursuit OCR opened a few months ago, and it’s a great spot to get sweaty on a date and forget for a minute that you’re an (arguably) fully functioning adult. They have classes and open gym, but my suggestion for a date is taking advantage of the $20 day price for the open gym and leave the hardcore conditioning classes for your next girls date.
If you’re looking for the perfect group date spot, axe throwing is your best bet. Known for birthday parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, it’s still the best spot to have fun and throw in some harmless competition with your boyfriend and your favourite double date partners. It’s $40/person for a full session, but the best part is, you can bring your own beverages and food. While it may sound intimidating to some, it’s seriously the most fun you’ll have on a double or group date.
Boyfriend a bit of a soccer nut but his level of dedication to the sport terrifies you from ever playing with him? Never fear, bubble soccer has arrived in Toronto. A hybrid of bumper cars, soccer and zorbing, this new sport is making waves on social media, and will get your heart rate up, and also make you giggle. Trust me, who knew running in a bubble could be so much fun and such an incredible workout. Monday through Thursday it costs $17.70 and weekends is $22.20.
Rock climbing
Rock climbing is a great way to try something new and step out of your comfort zone. Go with another couple or just you and your boy, it’s an awesome setting to have some fun and get sweaty. There’s plenty of options in Toronto to go climbing, and if you prefer top roping (actually climbing up the wall with a harness), Joe Rockheads ($20/person) is your best bet with higher walls. If you’re looking to show off your muscles by bouldering (without a harness and climbing around a giant boulder lookalike), Boulderz ($12.39/person) is a great spot.
Another childhood throwback: trampolining. Who knew going to a trampoline park could be so fun and also get your heart rate up? Going for a jump will definitely work some muscles that may not have been used much recently. Sky Zone Training in Toronto is $20/60 minutes, and you can practise flips into a ball pit, play some intense dodgeball or simply jump around. It’s the perfect spot to embrace your inner child with your man. Attendees beware, it’s filled with kids on weekends, so it really will be a throwback to your younger years.
