A new year means new trends, and along with that comes a bevvy of new beauty products hitting the shelves. We’ve rounded up our top five trends, and some new products launching that we can’t wait to covet in 2014.
Here's the list:
The Trend: bright matte lips
Matte lips have been around for a while now, but after seeing the spring shows, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. While we love a vibrant matte lip, sometimes it means sacrificing moisture for the love of the trend. Enter Revlon: ColorBurst Matte Balm, the latest addition to their ColorBurst Balm family, has a lineup of matte shades to choose from that keep your lips at their lip-smacking best without sacrificing colour. $10, mass market retailers
The Trend: gel manicures
Gel manis have become the go-to for many ladies, especially those chained to their keyboards for most of the week. Many brands have transitioned into the world of salon or at-home gel manis, and now one particular polish frontrunner is too. As of January 2014, many local salons will be equipped with the new Essie Gel system, including 36 long-lasting shades to match your existing favourite Essie polishes.
The Trend: natural skin
Smooth, even skin is easier said than done in the cold winter months, but is a must-have for the spring season’s go-to natural skin look. Easily achieved with CoverGirl’s latest concoction, the TruMagic Skin Perfector, this balm works as a primer for makeup by creating a smooth, even base to apply your favourite foundation or BB cream and is oil-free so it’ll minimize the appearance of pores without clogging them. $12, covergirl.ca
The Trend: glowing cheeks
One of the biggest trends seen fro spring alongside natural skin, was dewy, iridescent colour on the cheeks. Seeing a revival of sheer, luminous cream blushes, Maybelline New York launches Face Studio Master Glaze, an illuminating cream blush stick that allows you to give as much or as little colour as you want. $12, mass market retailers
The Trend: big, bold eyes
Over the past couple of months, we’ve seen a retro revival when it comes to makeup, including both mascara and eyeliner application. Big, bold lashes and strong, flicked-out cat-eye liner have made their mark, and continue to dominate spring’s makeup trends. Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara has intense pigmentation for standout colour and makes your lashes long and luscious for the ultimate bat-worthy look. $33, Sephora.ca
