Dropping your drawers has never been more stylish. Spring demands a touch of the whimsical with a big dose of sex appeal and sheer skirts fit the bill. Chanel, Dior, Jil Sander and Chloé© (to name a few) all put sheer skirts down the runway. With a few key ways to appropriately wear a sheer skirt, you’ll be sure to find your place. Wearing sheer isn’t always as clear as the fabric itself, and you don’t want to wind up on the wrong side of the tracks.
1. Pair A Sheer Skirt with a Mini Dress
An easy and versatile way to make the most of your sheer experience, is to wear a mini dress underneath. Pair the skirt with a short dress of your own comfort level – bare all in a strapless tube dress, or keep things subtle with a long-sleeved version. A mini dress still shows your legs and the length of your killer sheer skirt, but allows you to keep your important lady-bits concealed like…well, a lady.
Similarly, if you’ve got a great top you’re set on wearing, sport a body-con mini underneath your sheer skirt instead.
2. Pair A Sheer Skirt with a Bodysuit
Daring? Try a full-bottomed bodysuit or a high-waisted boy short (but leave the patterned, polka-dotted, or striped undies out of the equation). For the ultimate show-off look, turn to shape wear. If you go this route, be sure to keep your top half balanced out with something that draws attention upwards. Your leggy lower half shouldn’t necessarily be the main focus. Stunner Rosie Huntington-Whitely showed up on the red carpet in a long, flowing, sheer black skirt with black shape wear underneath, but the drama was subtle when she played around with a formal bright green (and full coverage) top.
3. Avoid Bulk
Avoid wearing pieces underneath your sheer skirt that are too bulky, or especially that are too long. This can overwhelm the look and take away from the light, airy appeal of sheer fabric. Part of the magic of wearing a sheer skirt is to embrace your dare to ‘bare’ attitude and show a little skin!
