As much as everyone loves summer, many a fashionista will tell you it is not their favourite time of year for fashion. High fashion thrives in the spring and fall when the weather is cool enough to layer and get creative, but not so cold that you have to cover everything up. But when it’s 30 degrees outside, all you want to do is wear as little clothing as possible, and it can be a real sartorial struggle trying to get creative with your outfits. But all hope is not lost; here are some stylish solutions to your mid-summer clothing slump.
Long, light skirts
Lightweight skirts of any length will keep you cool in the summer. So if you are getting bored of miniskirts, try experimenting with different lengths; knee length, ankle length, or maxi. Longer skirts are very in this season. Wearing a maxi skirt with a tank top is just as simple and comfortable as wearing a mini skirt with a tank top, only it has a new and fresh look and it will make you feel oh-so-elegant.
Hats
If you are planning for a long day outside, you know the sun will be beating down on your head, so a hat is always a practical choice. But there are plenty of fashionable hats to choose from; wide brimmed floppy hats, fedoras, and bowler hats¦ the list goes on! Not to mention the addition of a trendy hat can take a simple summer outfit of a tee shirt and shorts, and make it chic and exciting.
Crop tops/loose tops
And if a hat isn’t enough to vamp up a simple out fit, then take those regular shorts and swap them for high waisted shorts, and take your regular tee shirt and swap it for a crop top. And don’t be afraid to show a little bit of skin ofnyour belly (but not too much). It’s a new take on a standard outfit, and it’s a totally flattering look.
Cotton trousers
If you are like me, then you haven’t been able to force yourself into jeans since the weather rose up over 30 degrees. Jeans are tight, hot, and simply not the most comfortable for humid weather. But that doesn’t mean you can’t wear pants ever! Get yourself some light cotton trousers. They are a nice change from all other leg baring summer outfits, and they will keep you cool while still looking fashionable and fun.
Accessories
Lastly, a key way to add some interest to a simple summer outfit is to accessorize! Put a cute belt on a plain tee shirt dress, layer some necklaces on top of a crisp white tank top, experiment with different styles of sandals, get some funky pairs of sunglasses, or jump on the bright coloured purse trend. That’s the great thing about them; even when you feel limited with clothing choices, you are never limited with accessories.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
