Serial dating is defined as, One who engages in the process of systematically dating a large amount people in short span of time. This definition encompasses but is not limited to internet dating, bar dating, long distance flirtations, phone service dating, blind dating, expiration dating, match making, one night stands, friends with benefits, and personal ad surfing. In other words¦.a ˜player’.
But in today’s world where options abound and choice seems to be endless, is this a strategy that makes sense when looking for love?
Smart Idea?
Some believe finding love is simply a mere numbers game. The more people you meet and date, the better your chances of finding someone who makes your heart beat faster and with whom you can see the possibility of long term compatibility. After all, plenty of fish in the sea and there’s much fun to be had deep sea diving.
And if you have recently come out of a long term relationship, perhaps the last thing you want to do is jump into another. By dating many at once, you are allowing yourself to get to know a wide range of personalities and figure out what works for you and what you can live without. Exposure to people with other interests beyond your own, can open up your world. And that can be priceless.
A Waste of Time?
The downside, and we all know, there always has to be at least one, is that endless choice, doesn’t necessarily mean better. You might very well find yourself in a state of confusion and stuck in the I’m waiting for something better frame of mind, when better doesn’t necessarily exist. Different does. Getting stuck in the quagmire of ˜trading up’ can leave you with nothing at the end of the day. And well¦that likely wasn’t the goal.
Stepping into the shoes of the other for a moment, no one likes to know they are merely one of many. Jealousy and hurt feelings can rear their heads and eventually, there is little that can be done to avoid this. And a choice, from either side will need to be made.
While some swear by this strategy and others compare it to living in a three-ring circus, at the end of the dinner for two and moonlight stroll, there is no right or wrong answer, only what works for you.
Have you tried this strategy? How did it work for you?
