One Celeb, Four Looks: Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams has come a long way from her 2004 debut as Regina George (we choose to overlook The Hot Chick), and since climbing the ranks of Hollywood’s elite, she’s brought new meaning to sophistication, style and overall cool. Thus, it only makes sense that we use her recent appearances at Cannes to celebrate the Canadian cutie, who, whether opting for casual, formal or somewhere in-between, can teach all of us a thing about wearing what works.

Look 1: Gentlemen Only
We’ve sung the praises of menswear endlessly, and in typical McAdams fashion, the actress has embraced the seasonal look without looking like a slave to fashion. With patent pumps and sheer embellishment working to add dimension to her sleek, well-tailored one-piece, Rachel’s bright lips and retro curls pay homage to a classic aesthetic first attempted by flappers of the 1920s.

Look 2: The White Stuff
Championing the season’s hottest shade, the miniature actress keeps a silky, simple dress anchored with wedge sandals and loose waves. And for those who may think her skirt’s too short? Thanks to the dress’ long sleeves and high neck, her lack of length is cancelled out by above-the-waist modesty (note the lack of plunging necklines) and substantial shoes. So if you’re hoping to swing the same look this summer, opt for a dress that’s not overly tight or body-hugging: a short skirt can be balanced quite easily if you give yourself some room to breathe.

Look 3: In the Nude
Fact: it’s possible to don a neutral shade this season without looking monochromatic, provided you opt for an embellished piece that serves to give your ensemble some multi-dimension. By boasting a wide-legged trouser paired with a corset-inspired tube top, McAdams’ seemingly simple look is all things synonymous with interesting, as the beading on her shirt works together with her clutch and bangles to add texture and personality to a relatively safe colour choice “ which, as you can see, is anything but.

Look 4: Cré¨me de la cré¨me
The girl can wear white, but by taking advantage of both the seasonal affinity for the shade and 1960s silhouettes, she boasts a classically feminine look that’s traditional and timeless. With floral embellishments on the shoulders and at the hips, the actress takes a nice white style to brand new heights, as the cré¨me-coloured adornments work to add intrigue to her ensemble and texture to a dress in need of such.
