At a time when the loose pony and top-knot are the it hairstyle trends of spring/summer, there are always those celebs who crack the tress-o-meter up a notch too high.
Here are a couple of ‘dos that make us cringe and others that make us have hair envy:
The Messy Updo
Oh, Bar Rafaeli (left), why must you show up to the AMFAR Gala at the Cannes Film Festival as if you’re yearning to re-live your high school prom. On the other hand, we think Elizabeth Olsen (right) has mastered the messy updo, achieving the perfect balance between sophistication and making it modern.
The Top Knot
Whitney Port (left) is a red carpet fixture, but this birds nest hair OD’s on the wisps and looks unkempt, not in a good way. But Miranda Kerr (right) exemplifies what the classic top knot is supposed to look like. Classy and chic, this Victoria’s Secret Angel has got it down.
The Loose Pony
The loose pony is one of our tress favourites this season, but soap opera star Michelle Keegan (left) took this ‘do a little too far. We’re all for volume in most hairstyles, but the added oomph to this hairdo makes her head look disproportionated. Ashley Tisdale (right) rocks her locks well, and demonstrates that simplicity is key. Her side pony is nothing short of elegant, and the subtle curls only add to its timeless appeal.
