One Celeb, Four Looks: Julia Restoin-Roitfeld

Being the daughter of infamously chic Carine Roitfeld (who is sadly no longer with French Vogue), Julia Restoin-Roitfeld must undoubtedly feel pressure to look impeccably stylish all. The. Time. But judging from the way this sartorialist puts outfits together, it appears that Julia was simply blessed with her mama’s fashion gene.

Sure, it helps that she can raid her mother’s closet at beck and call, but after viewing her minimally chic NYC pad on The Selby, it’s no wonder this girl’s unique style sets industry darlings’ tongues’ wagging.

Below are four of our favorite looks and how you can achieve the Parisian approach to laissez- faire dressing:

Glam Utilitarian:

The key to the French approach to dressing is to combine unexpected pieces, like Julia’s military jacket atop a feminine body-con dress. With the addition of a classic Chanel quilted bag juxtaposed with strappy, black platform heels, the result in an uptown-meets-downtown look. Don’t just limit yourself to military wear though; try pairing a tuxedo blazer over a beloved tee or a worn-in denim jacket over a fitted skirt.

Updated LBD:

Always the one to push the fashion envelope, Julia wore a modern take on the classic LBD to the 2010 Victoria’s Secret fashion show, in Alexander Wang’s black one-sleeve dress, with draping detail, pleated skirt and sexy peek-a-boo cutout. With her mussed-up hair, black-lined eyes and punchy lip, this is relaxed evening wear at its finest.

Biker Chic:

Julia’s head-to-toe biker-inspired ensemble epitomizes this season’s biker craze. The sartorialist muse paired black leather leggings with motorcycle boots, an oversized fur jacket and topped it off with a stud-adorned bucket bag. If the overall look is too edgy for your taste, choose one piece and pair with items in your own closet. The fur jacket would look great over a cocktail dress for instance, while the leather leggings could be worn with a feminine silk blouse.

Bold Colour:

Although black is Julia’s signature colour, she never shies away from wearing bold jewel tones that compliment her brunette tresses. One of her standout cocktail dresses is a custom design by Emilio de la Morena, that combines emerald green and black ruffles with strong shoulders and strategic lace inserts. Take a style cue from Julia and let the dress do the talking; simple shoes and accessories will highlight the dress, not detract from it. To finish the look, a sexy red lip offsets the emerald tones in the dress.
