In a long term relationship it isn’t unlikely that one person will start to drift away. You begin dating because he makes you feel special, and eventually you settle into a comfortable routine. But, when that feeling starts to fade and your priorities begin to change, it is a tell-tale sign you’ve grown out of the relationship. Ignoring the signs will lead to unhappiness. It is better to address these feelings before it is too late. As the famous advice columnist Anne Landers said, It is better to be alone than to wish you were. Here are some signs that it is time to call it quits.
You Tune Out
If you find that issues that are important to him don’t interest you anymore it means you are losing your interest in him. In a relationship, what is significant to your partner becomes important to you because you want to see him happy. If you are not happy, you won’t strive to make him smile either.
You Make Decisions Without Him
When you are planning to spend your life with someone, the decisions you make often depend on them. From big plans like taking a job in another city or small things like what to order for dinner, are usually decisions you make together. When his opinion has little weight on your decision making, it is a sign that he is not a part of your future plan.
You’ve Lost Your Mojo
Would you rather watch the hunky dude on The Bachelor than jump in bed with your own man? This is a serious cause for concern. When he doesn’t make you feel like stripping down to your delicates and instead opt for your flannel, he no longer has a physical affect on you. Without that unique sexual connection you are headed into just friends territory.
He Gets on Your Nerves
Are you constantly criticizing him and nit-picking his every move? When he leans in for a kiss do you automatically turn away? If being with him annoys you, you need to come to the realization that the connection between you two has ultimately run its race. If you are acting like an old married couple and you aren’t one, it is time to rethink the relationship.
Don’t get down because it didn’t work out. Each relationship teaches us a lesson and helps us make better decisions next time. Because he wasn’t your life partner means you will be better prepared when Mr. Right does come along. In the mean time focus on finding what makes you happy and if it isn’t the person you are with, they are not worth wasting your time.
Basically, this article considers the relationship over whenever you run into a rough patch. This advice certainly would not pertain to a marriage situation, or there would be even more divorces than there already are.
very poor article
So, sorry to say, but this advice is actually quite valid. One of these things alone would not be enough reason to want to leave someone, but if you experience two, three, or all of these reasons, then you obviously have little to no interest left. I’ve been there and this advice is quite right.
And judging by the fact that they say that you should recognize these signs ‘before it’s too late’, then I’m sure you see that they were in fact talking about everyone BUT married couples. They know how to handle things if they’re married. And it’s not like divorce is illegal, and sorry to say, but marriage is no longer forever.
