Your Perfect Summer Scent

Fragrance is a beauty staple for many women, but shopping for it can be overwhelming. You want to find a scent that not only smells great but that suits your personality as well! But walking into your local pharmacy only to be faced with an entire wall of fragrances can send anyone running for the nearest checkout! Here are a few tips to finding your signature scent stress-free.

Spray it like you mean it.
Don’t hesitate to spray the sample bottles “ that’s what they are there for! And how else will you separate the smells you like from the one you don’t? At the same time, don’t spray yourself with all of the samples at once. If you’re covered with too many scents, it will be difficult to tell them apart after a while.

Ask a pro.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your cosmetician is one of your best resources when it comes to finding the right scent. Why? She’s probably had enough experience to know which perfumes smell spicy, fruity or floral. And while she may not be able to tell you in a split second which scents you’ll like and which you won’t, she can help you sift through all the candidates.

Bean there, smelt that.
Believe it or not, smelling coffee beans between scents actually cleanses your nose of the previous fragrance and increases your nose’s sensitivity for the next scent. This way, the perfumes you test won’t mix in your nose and start to all smell the same. Most pharmacies or cosmetics stores that sell fragrances will provide you with coffee beans. Unsure if your store does? Treat yourself to your favourite Starbucks fare before starting.

Here are three fab-now fragrances to get your scent-hunt started:

Chloe Eau de Fleurs in Capucine eau de parfum, $150 for 100 mL, at Holt Renfrew and Murale
Capucine is the perfect scent for summer days. It’s crisp with refreshing lemon, jasmine and rose essence and the bottle is stunning!

Favorite summer scents that I wear are citrus or coconut. I have a variety of scents in those two categories. Sometimes with a Vanilla accent in the coconut other times a blend of different citrus scents. Right now I’m loving my pomegranate lemon and Vanilla Coconut from Bath and Body Works the most.
