The 5 Makeup Brushes You Really Need

Your morning makeup routine can be a drag”no pun intended”if your brushes aren’t behaving. We hate to break it to you, but you won’t be able to re-create those Jessica Alba eyes if you don’t have the right tools. Add these five must-have brushes to your makeup bag:

1. A concealer brush
Using your fingers to apply concealer to under-eye circles or around the base of your nose is acceptable, but trust us, this tiny tool can make a big difference. It’s especially great for cover up itty bitty imperfections”your complexion will look instantly flawless!

How-to: Use the tip of the brush to apply a small amount of concealer to problem areas, and then apply pressed or loose powder on top to set in place.

2. A powder brush
Sure, it’s okay to use the sponge pad that comes with your powder when you’re in a pinch”but for best results, you can’t beat a big, fluffy powder brush. It makes application easier and coverage that much better. It can also double as a bronzer brush.

How-to: Dab your brush into the powder then tap it on the side of the compact to shake off any excess. Sweep all over your face for maximum coverage (for bronzer, just apply it where the sun would naturally hit your face).

3. A blush brush
Blush can be tricky, so you need to get it right (otherwise, you could start looking like Mimi from The Drew Carey Show). Throw away the brush that came with your powder blush (it’s too small and stubby) and invest in a quality blush brush. Bonus: you can also use it for brushing away eye shadow that has fallen under your eyes.

How-to: In the same way you’d prepare your powder brush, dab your blush brush into the product and then tap off any excess. Next, flash a smile and then sweep it across the roundest parts of your cheeks and along your cheekbones toward the hairline.

4. An angled eyeliner brush
Master a smoky eye or a dramatic Old Hollywood look with an angled eyeliner brush that helps you create a precise, clean line. Use this brush to define your upper or lower lash lines with eye shadow or gel eyeliner, or use it to soften the look of pencil liner.

How-to: Dip your brush in the product, and then holding your skin taut, slowly draw the line as close to the base of your lashes as possible.

5. An eyeshadow brush
This brush is perfect for an everyday look: just use it to apply a soft wash of colour all over your lids. Or, you can create a little depth by using it to define the crease of each lid.

How-to: Apply a neutral shadow (maybe with a little shimmer) all over your lids, and then sweep a medium shade along the creases.

You are right I actually used the new line from MAC cllead acrylic and then I airbrushed the white on her face and painted the rest, and then stuck on Rhine stones around her eyes. The next day the girl cllead me and told me they had gone to a party later on that night and met Marylin Manson and he loved her makeup she said I made her dream come true! Actually MAC acrylic is hypoallergenic and doesn’t seem to irritate the skin the only thing I do not like about it is that it is a real pain in the neck to remove it takes a whole lot of cleanser and scrubbing!
